Educational Philosophy
My Educational Philosophy…
A brief video which highlights the core values within my educational philosophy:
As an educator I embrace a student-centered constructivist approach, teaching for understanding to reach learning goals with my students. The individual learner and their unique learning style is central to their understanding of any subject matter. I strive for each student to have a positive learning experience that is meaningful, builds on prior knowledge, fosters a love for learning, leads to deeper understanding of themselves as learners, and embraces 21st century literacy skills. I strive to teach my students to learn habits leading to lifelong learning, to be thinkers, creators, investigators, collaborators, analysts, and problem solvers. I encourage them to engage actively in their learning.
I aspire to bring a global view to my teaching for students to better understand their identity, community, and connection within the world around them. Integrating technology, including web 2.0 applications, smartboard, mobile devices, online course management, and social networks for education are an important aspect to how I achieve learning goals with my students and embrace 21st century educational ideologies.
I believe in continual learning for myself as an educator. In this ever-changing global world it is important to keep current with educational and technological changes. I am involved in developing teaching and learning networks through online learning groups, twitter for education, blogging, creation of a website for integrating technology, and attending conferences and workshops regularly. In addition to collaboration with colleagues at my own school, I collaborate with educators around the world broadening my scope of technology education resources and ideologies.
